WEST HAVEN — Taylor Scadlock doesn’t quite see it, but her parents do.

The Roy High girls soccer player has a lot in common with her sister, Brittany.

“Sometimes you’ll be looking at her on the field, and it’s like, ‘Wow, that’s Brittany,’” said Taylor’s father, Terry Scadlock.

Those similarities are evidenced in how Taylor plays, how she acts and how she thinks.

This season, they were evidenced in another way, as well — the jersey Taylor wore.

Taylor wore the No. 10 this year, the number Brittany wore when she played at Roy. It’s been a year and a half since Brittany passed away while serving a Latter-day Saint mission in Argentina.

Roy didn’t enjoy a lot of success this season, managing only one region victory in 12 contests, but Taylor felt the strength of the jersey.

“That’s what made me keep going hard in the season,” Taylor said.

Taylor and Brittany were close despite the five years in age that separated them.

“We were way close, actually,” Taylor said.

Taylor is right-footed, but she learned to kick with her left foot because Brittany was left-footed. When Brittany went off to play soccer at Western Nebraska Community College, it inspired Taylor to want to play soccer in college.
